Why This Blog?

Bichon Rescue has always been ready to step in and assist dogs who need to be re-homed. It’s a massive effort, taken on by volunteers all over the USA, plus Canada and the UK.

There is no shelter. Each dog accepted into Bichon Rescue is placed with a Foster home, to receive care and socialization while prospective owners are screened.

Right now, the need for such Foster homes has increased. The current economic crisis has caused many families to suffer foreclosures, or to scale down their lives and move into housing which doesn’t always allow pets. We are receiving more fluffs right now from families who can no longer afford their care. It’s heartbreaking, but we will continue to do our best for them.

We also have a large influx of dogs coming from Puppy Mills and “Backyard Breeders” who are downsizing or getting out of the business. Much of this current action stems from Oprah’s Puppy Mill Expose. It also means that we’re taking in a lot of dogs who have major medical problems, or who are pregnant (young and old brood bitches), and who are not socialized. These are the challenging Fosters who need love and a practiced hand.

Our domain for this blog is Find-Foster-Forward. Our goal is to Forward each dog to a loving forever home. It could take a few days, a few weeks or a few months, but during that time we need a caring Foster.

Is Fostering for you?

With this blog, we’re telling the stories of Fosters in different states and different situations. One is Single. One is Married, without children. Other co-bloggers have children of various ages. Each and every Foster has a large group of Rescuers available to answer questions, and standing behind them for support.

Jobs, relationships, families, it makes no difference to the dogs. They’ll do whatever it takes to fit in. They’re just hoping for a place to be fed, be cared for…and feel safe. For some, it will be the first time they will feel truly safe.

Would you think about being a Foster?

If you’d like to talk about it, drop us a line.
